Taking care of your body through juicing

Juicing recipes are by far my favourite way to get my vitamin A from plants. They’re often healthier than their supermarket counterparts, too. But for the longest time, I kept thinking that I’d never be able to find a good recipe for juicing citrus fruit. After much tinkering and trial and error, I’ve developed a few recipes and a few tips to make juicing juiciness as easy as possible.

The first recipe I came up with was, unsurprisingly, lemon and lime. I’m going to put this on my menu as my weekend morning smoothie, and I hope you will, too.

Recipe

1 medium orange and 1 green apple.

Juice the orange (see tips) until it’s a pulp.

Strain the pulp into a blender or juicer bowl, squeezing the liquid from the pulp.

In a large glass or stainless steel container (I use a 3 quart) pour the orange juice into a blender or juicer bowl.

Spoon in some lemon juice and toss the pulp into the blenderjuicer. Pulse a few times or just blend for 30 seconds, until the pulp is smooth and juice is clear. Pour into glass containers or refrigerate until ready to serve. If you want to keep your juice longer, you can also place the fruit pulp in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. From a Glass Jar

In the last week I’ve learned a lot about my body through my body scan. Every other time I was scanning my body I’d have to think of what to look for: heart rate, blood pressure, body fat %, cholesterol levels, and more. My body scan is actually an experiment in a way, that is it was done to uncover the physical markers of my health and wellness. Every year on my birthday I try to see if I can improve on my health and fitness goals. This year I was working with the goal to lose a few pounds and learn some new things. I’ve had a lot of different meals and exercises that I’ve done in the past but had never really thought about using in my body scan. One of the new things I was trying out was smoothies. I have found a new passion that allows me to explore new things. This new passion started with some juices I made myself and became more with fruits and vegetables.
